Ground features new sculptures by Julia Znoj, alongside works by signature drink, Julija Zaharijević, Eliane Bertschi and a collaborative sound piece between Znoj and Felix Benedikt. Starting from the abstraction of the container as a space of theoretical and technological complications, Znoj’s sculptural proposals become feline vessels. The other four artists may respond by looking at the space at hand through a dereal cat perspective.
Julia Znoj (b. 1990, Bern, Switzerland) currently lives and works between Vienna and Thun. In her practice she moves through a variety of materials––such as metal, plastic, paper, sugar and cloth, but also found and previously discarded objects. She engages with the notions of form and abstraction, and how disparate items and structures can materialize as sculptures in temporary settings, considering the representation of horizontality and the ornamental in art and architecture. In her objects, she aims to make evident a perpetual change, in order to reflect on the ways bodies become conditioned in our technology-driven society. Furthermore, she explores the formal potentiality of anxiety as a cultural and historical trope.
Her work has been shown at City Galerie Wien, Layr, KRONE COURONNE, Kunsthaus Pasquart, WAF Galerie, Sharp Projects, Kunstraum Schwaz, Swiss Institute NYC, among others. She previously co-ran the exhibition space Gärtnergasse in Vienna.

Ground zeigt neue Skulpturen von Julia Znoj, neben Arbeiten von signature drink, Julija Zaharijević, Eliane Bertschi und einer kollaborativen Soundarbeit von Znoj und Felix Benedikt. Ausgehend von der Abstraktion des Containers, der in sich theoretische und technologische Komplikationen trägt, schlägt Znoj katzenhafte Behälter vor. Die vier anderen Künstler*innen sind eingeladen, auf den Raum, von einer derealen Katzenperspektive zu reagieren.
Julia Znoj (*1990, Bern, Schweiz) lebt und arbeitet zwischen Wien und Thun. In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis verwendet sie unterschiedliche Materialien––darunter Metall, Plastik, Papier, Zucker, Textilien sowie gefundene und zuvor verworfene Objekte. Sie beschäftigt sich mit Fragen über Form und Abstraktion und damit, wie sich Dinge und Strukturen als Skulpturen in temporären Settings materialisieren. Dabei untersucht sie auch die Repräsentation von Horizontalität und Ornament in der Kunst und der Architektur. In ihren Arbeiten möchte sie einen fliessenden Wandel sichtbar machen, um zu reflektieren, wie unsere Körper in der Technosphäre konditioniert werden. Ausserdem erforscht sie die formale Potenzialität von Angst und Unruhe als kulturelles und historisches Motiv.
Ihre Arbeiten wurden u.a. bei City Galerie Wien, Layr, KRONE COURONNE, Kunsthaus Pasquart, WAF Galerie, Sharp Projects, Kunstraum Schwaz, Swiss Institute NYC gezeigt. Zuvor hat sie den Kunstraum Gärtnergasse mit-organisiert.
